‘Confiscation’ pursues a specific comedy: Director

Iranian director Mehran Ahmadi says his Fajr Film Festival-nominated debut film ‘Confiscation’ pursues a more specific type of comedy.

Iranian director Mehran Ahmadi has noted that his Fajr Film Festival-nominated debut film ‘Confiscation’ pursues a more specific type of comedy.

The actor-turned-director made the remark in an interview after the screening of his movie on Saturday as part of the Fajr Film Festival in Iran.

“I like comedy, although the comedy I like is a bit personal,” Ahmadi said, adding that, “I pay due respect to all the comedies previously made by my colleagues so far, but I pursue a more specific type of comedy.”

He went on to note that comedies have always been acclaimed at Iranian events, citing such comedies as ‘The Tenants’ by Dariush Mehrjui and ‘Leili is with Me’ by Kamal Tabrizi as well as others.

Set in the US and Armenia, Mehran Ahmadi’s ‘Confiscation’ is a comedy that follows the story of a SAVAK (Iran's security service before the Islamic Revolution) agent escaping to the US after the Islamic Revolution in Iran.

The feature-length comedy stars Reza Attaran, Houman Seyyedi, Babak Hamidiyan and Mir-Taher Mazloumi.

“My team and I believe that we should make a film that first deserves to be on the silver screen and then respects the audience,” he concluded.

The 36th edition of the prominent Fajr Film Festival is slated for February 1-11, 2018.
